SUPPLY LIST
  • SKETCH PAD: 9 x 12" or larger, lightweight bond or inexpensive paper

  • WATER COLOR PAPER: The preferred paper is 140 lb., hot press. Arches, Lanaquerelle, Winsor-Newton (these in 22" x 30") or Fabriana 5 "Classico" in 27" x 39" are good choices. Spiral bound or glued pads are okay for new painters, but you will need the individual sheets eventually.

  • PAINTS: If you have transparent watercolors in tubes please bring them to our first class.

For beginners, it is enough to bring the primaries:
      1. Perm. red light
      2. Prussian blue
      3. Gamboge yellow

    For more advanced students:
Hookers Green; Burnt Sienna; Alizarin Crimson; Aureolin Yellow; Viridian Green; Indigo.

These are all options. If you prefer different colors, please use them.

NOTE: for beginners, student-grade paints in small tubes are adequate. Later, I recommend Winsor-Newton or Holbein.

  • BRUSHES: Please have one pointed round brush for the class, #16 or #18 (or bigger).
If you already have your own brushes, please bring them to class.

  • TAPE: Drafting or masking tape and glue tape (comes in brown or white).

  • SMALL ITEMS: eraser, pencil (graphite), water holder (plastic is best), Kleenex or toilet paper, a soft sponge, charcoal.

  • BOARD: (plastic, wood, masonite, etc. will do) to stretch your paper on.
